Veterans Day 2013 (#5)

Veteran's day. It's a national holiday, we get a day off from school and there's even a parade. But many people do not go farther into thinking what Veteran's day is actually all about. It is a day to honor all those who have given up their precious time and effort to protect this nation's freedom. It's more than just another day off from school, where we get to sleep in and not have to worry about setting our alarms to wake us up.

This Veterans Day I visited Boston. I didn't know their was actually going to be a parade to celebrate this day, but as I arrived I took notice of all that was going on. Men and women from all branches of the military were dressed in their uniforms, proudly walking about. There was a band that played the National Anthem and families of veterans were even marching together in the parade. it was all very interesting.

As I reflect back on this day, I cannot help but emphasize the fact that I should really try to recognize this holiday more effectively. I mean, I'm in school at this very moment only because of the men and women that have fought to protect my own freedom. I can speak freely because these soldiers have strived to make it possible for me to do so. I cannot but be more than thankful for all that they have given for all of us across the country. it is indeed a privilege to live in a nation where people are so willing to give all that they have, there time, strength and intelligence, to make the USA a great place to be.
